Call for Public Comment: American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine
Cardiology has evolved to encompass a wide variety of subspecialties, such as electrophysiology (EP), and multidisciplinary care. It’s time for an independent Board that reflects the evolution of cardiology into its own distinct medical specialty. The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is interested in hearing how a specialized, independent Board of Cardiovascular Medicine will impact your practice.
We have a responsibility to our patients and the public to remain current in understanding best practices and evidence-based care. An independent Board of Cardiovascular Medicine would play an important role in ensuring cardiologists/EPs are at the forefront of their field and meet and sustain the core competencies unique to cardiology. It would prioritize physician lifelong learning and support the cycle of continuous self-improvement that is essential for improving patient outcomes. This Board of Cardiovascular Medicine would, therefore, represent the best interests of cardiologists/EPs and patients alike.
Ask ABMS to support the creation of a new Board by July 24, 2024.
Please also encourage your patients, hospitals, health systems, payors, and peers to submit comments to ABMS as well.
Our patients shouldn’t trust their hearts to just anyone. They want and deserve cardiologists/EPs who are up-to-date on the best practices, clinical skills, and evidence-based care. An new, independent Board of Cardiovascular Medicine would ensure they are placing their heart in the best hands.
