December 19, 2024 – HRS members are encouraged to check their eligibility for either of the two tracks of the Quality Payment Program (QPP): MIPS and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs).
CMS recently published final eligibility determinations for the 2024 performance year. Clinicians may enter their 10-digit National Provider Identifier (NPI) in the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Participation Status Tool to confirm their final status under either track of the program. Clinicians who are eligible for MIPS must comply with reporting requirements or face a Medicare payment penalty of up to -9%, applied to all Medicare Part B claims in 2026. Clinicians who are determined to have Qualifying APM Participant (QPs) status in 2024 are exempt from MIPS and eligible for an APM incentive payment of 1.88% in 2026, which applies to all Part B covered professional services furnished by the QP in 2025. Starting with the 2026 payment year, QPs also will be awarded a slightly higher Medicare base conversion factor of 0.75% (vs. 0.25% for non-QPs, including MIPS participants).
Clinicians may also now view their initial MIPS eligibility for the 2025 performance year, which will be updated again in December 2025.
More information about QPP eligibility and reporting requirements is available in on the QPP website.
