October 1, 2023 – CMS recently announced that the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) automatic Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) policy will apply to MIPS eligible clinicians in certain counties in the state of Hawaii impacted by recent wildfires.
MIPS eligible clinicians in these areas will be automatically identified and all four performance categories will be reweighted to 0% for the 2023 performance period.
More information is available on the QPP Exception Applications webpage and on the 2023 MIPS Automatic EUC Policy Fact Sheet, which lists additional areas designated by CMS as falling under this policy, including certain counties in Mississippi and Guam that were affected by recent storms.
