March 4, 2025 – To ensure adequate federal funding for health care programs and research, HRA, along with nearly 200 other organizations, supported a sign-on letter to Congress calling for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to be fully funded fiscal year (FY) 2026.
AHRQ is under threat in both the appropriations process where the House Appropriations Committee has called for eliminating the agency, and as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reorganizes to reduce federal spending through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) process.
AHRQ plays an important role within HHS by supporting research that ensures lifechanging and lifesaving care reaches the most vulnerable populations. The letter addressed to the Senate and House chairs and ranking members of the Appropriations committees asks to fund AHRQ for a minimum of $500 million in FY 2026.
