April 1, 2025 – The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) met in early March to hear public input on reducing barriers to participation in population-based total cost of care (PB-TCOC) models and supporting primary and specialty care transformation. PTAC is an independent federal advisory committee that makes recommendations to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on stakeholder-submitted physician-focused payment models and related topics.
In introductory remarks, Abe Sutton, the new Director of the CMS Innovation Center, expressed his commitment to delivery system reform and designing models that can be certified for expansion. To date, only four out of over 40 models tested have met the statutory criteria for expansion. Mr. Sutton also emphasized the importance of chronic disease treatment and prevention, in alignment with HHS Secretary Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” vision.
Materials from the meeting are available on the PTAC website, and video recordings will be posted in the future. HRA will continue to monitor the evolution of alternative payment and delivery models under the new Administration, as well as opportunities for its members to shape and participate in such models.
