New MIPS Participation Available for 2024
For 2024, CMS will continue to offer a new pathway for clinicians and group practices participating in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), known as MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs).
MVPs are a new framework intended to streamline MIPS participation by offering a subset of measures and activities related to a specific specialty or medical condition. By offering a more focused set of measures and activities and generally requiring the reporting of fewer measures and activities than under traditional MIPS, CMS hopes that MVPs will incentivize specialists to report on more clinically relevant measures.
MVPs available for 2024 include an Advancing Care for Heart Disease MVP, which includes the following MIPS measures relevant to cardiac electrophysiologists:
- 392: Cardiac Tamponade and/or Pericardiocentesis Following Atrial Fibrillation Ablation
- 393: Infection within 180 Days of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) Implantation, Replacement, or Revision
Participating in MIPS through an MVP is currently voluntary, but CMS has indicated its desire to eventually make MVPs a requirement under MIPS. More information on how to register and participate in an MVP can be found in the 2024 MVP Implementation Guide, available for download.
